Let The Day Begin...Let The Day Start!: Day 136 - Graham Nash

Graham Nash has recently released his first solo album of new material since 2002's Songs For Survivors

I was actually pretty excited about this because Shane Fontayne has produced it and has co-written many of the songs with Nash, he's been out on the road performing with him as well. For any who are wondering who on earth Shane Fontayne is, the easiest reference point to say is that he was the guitarist for Bruce Springsteen on during the 1992-93 Tour for Human Touch and Lucky Town albums. He also has worked with the likes of Maria McKee (and Lone Justice), Steve Forbert, Joe Cocker, Richard Marx, Crosby Stills & Nash and has been touring guitarist for Marc Cohn since 1998, to name but a few. He's also released some solo albums as well down through the years.

For a 74 year old Graham Nash is sounding in fine voice and his writing with Fontayne has brought forth a fine collection. I love the title track but it's two songs near the end of the album that really gripped me. First up Golden Days which is a reflection on days passed, no doubt playing with the likes of The Hollies and CSNY and the second is actually the final track on the album called Encore. Where Golden Days looks backwards, Encore looks forward to that day when the show is finally over and what happens next. So wonderful. I wish the whole album was here for you to listen to because it's just a beautiful work from start to finish.

He also looks like he's really enjoying himself playing at the moment, maybe it's the sense of freedom from not being confined by the likes of David Crosby and Stephen Stills.
